There's nothing more exciting than welcoming a new baby into the world. I love everything about babies and that includes the delivery. I've given birth to 4 children. Each one was a miracle and each delivery so much fun. Yes, I said fun. Participating in a childbirth photo session allows you and your loved ones to focus on the task at hand, while I quietly stand back and capture all the emotion, love, and excitement of the day.

Those first few minutes, hours, and days of meeting your new baby are magical.

The feel of a childbirth session is obviously much different than a studio newborn session. Most clients that sign up for a childbirth session have already booked a newborn session as well!

This girl is the reason for this special event: Meet Addi.
Isn't she beautiful? She's a very happy, active 21 month old who loves to climb, run, dance, and play. However, Addi and her wonderful parents, Daren & Shannon Black, were just given a devastating diagnosis of FOP. I've attached THIS VIDEO CLIP that explains her condition.

The short version: over time all her muscular system will harden into bone leaving her unable to move. I can't imagine as a parent watching a child go through this process. But there's hope. Medical research has advanced greatly in recent years. As with any research, it takes funds to move forward. Addi is in a race against time. We are hopeful a cure or at least some methods to slow the process will be found before Addi's disease progresses too quickly.

For those of you that have been to my studio, you may remember my set of canvases above the stairs. I love those pictures, but the number of children in our family has doubled since those were taken . . . so it was time for an update. The timing was tricky--we had to wait until Natalie could sit up, but do it before Emily lost her two front teeth, and while everyone fit into their amazing outfits by Babes N Beads. This time of year is so great for outdoor sessions. The light is beautiful and golden and the temperature is just right.

Lexi's session was smooth and easy . . . once she finally closed those beautiful peepers! Baby girl was WIDE awake for the first while, and then once she zonked, she was gone. Just the way I like it. She could have slept in her daddy's hands forever. I always feel a little bad moving these tiny ones to a new position after they've settled in so nicely where they are. Oh, how I love Jill's kids! Yes, they are beautiful, but they're also sweet and SO photogenic. And Jill does a fantastic job with their clothes. Since they live in Utah, this was my first time to meet little Xander--and he's just so perfect. When I saw Jack walking up the sidewalk just after they arrived, I almost ran out and gave him a big hug. Every day I feel so blessed to do my job . . . but photographing ALL 3 of Jill's kids made me so grateful. You see, Jack nearly lost his life this summer in an accident. His survival was a miracle and so I felt very honored to be in the presence of such a special boy. And Miss Jaycie--that girl was workin' it for the camera. She was telling me where she wanted the chair and which backdrop. Nothing wrong with a girl knowing what she likes!

Look who's 6 months old now!

I bought this cute old trunk from an antique store, and as always I was rushing to finish all my errands. After I was home and in the studio, I opened the trunk for the first time--and was pleasantly surprised to see the adorable interior! It definitely called for the cutest model I could find. She's a bit stubborn with the smiles--a cold, an ear infection, and teething can do that to a little one! However, she did grace me with some cute faces blowing raspberries. Smiles or not, she's just so perfect.

I discovered that this baby will hold still in my studio for 2 seconds if its not her turn. I was photographing some cute little kidlets that belong to my good friend when Alyssa decided she didn't want to miss out. She toddled straight into the studio and plopped down on the crate I was trying to convince another little boy to sit on. And she gave me this face:

People always ask me if I'm constantly in the studio with my kids. The answer: NO! I try to be really careful about not asking/expecting too much from them. I certainly don't want to make them despise having pictures taken when they are older. I do, however, take a lot of everyday snapshots with my point and shoot. Not everything in their scrapbooks will be professional. Hmmm, did I just say scrapbooks? Ya, that's a project for when they're all in school someday!!!

All that being said, prepare yourself to see more of this baby on the blog. Like, a lot more. In fact, she may even start to think the studio is her second home. But she's only going to be at this golden age for pictures for a little while. And then she will be running away from me and screaming like my toddler does right now.

Here's Miss Nattie at 5 1/2 months. My husband dared to say the other day that our baby was 6 months old. He does it just to get at me--he knows I never round up when it comes to our kids ages. That would mean I'm getting ahead of things and when it comes to my kids I love to soak up every second of every age. And okay, she's 5 3/4 months old. But most definitely NOT 6.

Oooh, I just love that face. Her huge blue eyes, and that little tongue is always busy and sticking out. She's fascinated with her tootsies right now and rolling over every chance she gets.

This boy was way past the prime age (5 to 10 days) to photograph newborns. He was 4 weeks old and I wasn't sure what he'd be willing to do, but Isaac gave us some great shots! He didn't yell at me once through the process and we breezed through his poses. Yay!!!

is amazing, busy, silly, wonderful, crazy, loud, funny, sweet, happy, and tempermental. Yes, all of them. And sometimes all of those traits are expressed within the same minute. She evokes so many emotions in me--she makes me feel blessed, exhausted, giddy, and frustrated all within that same minute.

I cannot get this girl into my studio for pictures. She is too fast and crazy and doesn't even look at me no matter how loud I shriek. A few weeks ago I was photographing some gorgeous signs for Angela, and this little imp snuck in and began her silliness. I knew if I took time to move the light in her direction, she'd be gone, so I just snapped what I could. It gives you a glimpse of her personality.

Anyone who meets her is smitten within minutes. For those of you that don't know her . . . you're missing out! We love our little tazmanian devil!

UPDATE: We are back home where the nights are cool and the internet is much faster. : ) We had a great time in New Mexico and even though it's a long drive, my kids did great!

My internet connection is painfully slow right now. But Kasha has been waiting so patiently for a preview I had to get through just one upload. We had so much fun shooting these engagements. It was kind of refreshing to have some subjects that can follow directions. I didn't even have to jump around or make crazy noises to get their attention!

Just a reminder: I am not shooting weddings right now. With 4 little kids and 4-6 studio sessions per week, it's just not something I can tackle. Although I do shoot engagements . . . obviously!!

Jersey is a tiny little girl who made her appearance into this world a little earlier than expected. One of the things I love about photographing newborns is watching new parents. Meet Paxton. He was so sleepy and sweet for his entire session. He brought along his beautiful sister, Reese. She has the most beautiful honey-colored eyes. Reese was incredibly shy and quiet throughout her time in front of the camera. And then once it was all over, she actually said something out loud! : )

These handsome boys are all the way from Seattle. I've been photographing Joseph since he was just a little baby. He still loves having his picture taken. I love this first picture of them--Joseph is quite outgoing and was silly for the camera. Andrew is more reserved and not so happy about the camera. Andrew brought along a few loves for his pictures--his blankie and his monkey. So cute!

These three kids have recently become Texans! I love Texas and I hope they love it there, too. Boston is 6, and it's obvious he's going to be breaking a lot of hearts someday! Charlie is 4 and is a happy little guy. Lyla is 18 months and was not a fan of having pictures taken. It's funny how that all changes once girls get a little older!

Today was my first day back in the studio in over a week. While I enjoyed the break with my family, I have to admit, I was eager to get back to photographing babies again. Kade was a chubby bubba, and oh so wonderful to work with. I honestly feel so excited before each and every session. You'd think the butterflies would have worn off after 4 years at it!

It's officially summer . . . Idaho has actually had beautiful weather in the 80s and 90s. Our days are filled with swimming, fishing, popsicles, and family reunions! Jazlynn was 4 weeks old at her session--not the typical newborn age. But she was still tiny and somewhat sleepy, so we gave it a try. Her family came up from Utah and I'm so glad they could make the trip! She was so well behaved and I got my fill of tiny baby-ness to tide me over for a while.

I've slacked off on posting to my blog since the sun made an appearance. Today was the perfect day to break out the kiddie pool, the slip 'n' slide, and some popsicles. I have the sunburn to prove it!

Cooper + Chloe = super easy session! These beautiful children belong to an equally beautiful mama. Cooper was happy to let me photograph him. Chloe was happy--but provided quite the chase for us. Isn't she such a dolly? I adore this first picture.

Olivia is such a little dolly! Her features are so petite and I just love her little expressions. Baby smiles are always a favorite, but I'm a sucker for the serious gazes. This girl was excited about her cake--not to eat it, but to dump it off the plate! She took one taste of the sugary frosting and did a full body shudder. So funny.

If you like freckles, be prepared for some sweet ones in this post! This family traveled over from Sun Valley for their session. We had planned to go outdoors, but Mother Nature didn't get the memo! Pretty Miss Payleigh is 1 year old! It's amazing to think of how quickly this past year has gone by. This girl was a teensy tiny newborn and now she's a girl on the move. I was so curious to see if she ended up staying tiny like her mama, or if she turned out to be tall like her dad.
Verdict: Definitely tall like her daddy!!

Oh my. This little guy is quite adorable--and he was perfectly behaved. Braedyn had a rough start in this world as his collar bone was broken during delivery. But at 2 1/2 weeks old he was completely healed and ready to pose for the world to see! His sweet mama was so relaxed you would have never known she was a first time mom who had just gone through all this trauma with her baby. Enjoy the preview!

Oooooh, baby love. Times two!! These little guys were so much fun in my studio. They just turned one year old, but lucky for me they weren't walking yet. Gage is on the left, and Ryder is on the right. Gage is busy, happy, and social. Ryder is quiet, sweet, and relaxed. Guess who we spent the most time chasing after??

You can tell it's the same baby, but there's some chub now. She is STILL an angel with NO signs of colic . . . can you tell I have been waiting for that bomb to drop? She is so quiet and she sleeps all day. But it causes a bit of a problem when night time rolls around! We are keeping our fingers crossed that she remains healthy, calm, and sweet.

This is Rylee & Kennedi. They have lived across from each other since they were born. They are best buddies, but more like sisters. Their moms are best friends, too! They've had babies together, put their husbands through school together, and supported each other through everything. Because their apartment doors faced each other the girls spent every day running back and forth.

Both these girls' daddies just graduated from college, so it was time to move on. But before they did, we had a friends photo session with the best buddies and their little siblings. I must say it was a little bit crazy with all 4 little ones, but I am sure Leslie & Sharlie will treasure these pictures! I know you guys are missing each other right now, so I hope these images provide a bright spot in your day! And I'm not responsible for any tears that may fall during viewing. : )

Calvin's grandma from Wisconsin came to the session and she saved me when my baby was being a little fussy. Maybe my Natalie was jealous of all the attention I was giving Calvin. : ) This boy has the most gorgeous, juicy lips!

She was glued to her mama and wasn't about to let go. I tried all my tricks, and then I brought out my secret weapon . . . my little Natalie. It was enough to distract Sophia away from her mommy long enough to realize I wasn't too scary. Little Sophia is a doll--so petite and such beautiful eyes.

Baby Spring Fling - Easter Weekend

Emry was so very sweet during her entire session. She soaked her dad's shirt, but didn't get any of my blankets dirty! Big sister Ryah did great for the sibling shots, but as with any 2 year old, once she said she was done, she really was. I love this picture of them together.
